After working in Pico for more than 3 months now, I attended my first company Dinner & Dance held at Pan Pacific - Pacific Ballroom on 19th Jan 2007 at 6pm. My dept booked a room there for easy changing of clothes before the dinner. We met up at 5pm in the hotel. Boon Ping was nice enough to pick me up and drop me off from work as his fiancee lives in Boon Lay. We were supposed to knock off at 3pm but my boss let us off earlier so after coming back from Bras Basah Complex at 2pm, I left with Boon Ping. I went home to change, shower and applied make-up.

Sam was already there. Then the rest of us arrived soon. We changed into our chosen theme - M.I.B Each of us had our gun. We got ourselves a black jacket, black tie, black shades for ladies and the guys all had blaziers from G2000 (U.P: $259, NOW: $59). I bought myself a pair of shoes too. It was rather loose as I had bought 1 size bigger. We looked more like security guards than alien hunters from Men In Black. My boss was so in it too, she brought along a cool gun which makes her look like our security manager.

When you hold the neck, it actually makes a suffocated sound. As for the cockroaches, they will be our aliens for us to shoot at. Cute eh?

Sharon who was the only committee in our dept dressed like Ashlee Simpson so we looked like we are protecting some celebrity. Outside the ballroom had this red carpet which makes us really look like celebrities attending the Oscars. The theme is supposedly Celebrity Idols but we are expected to wear like our celebrities from their hit movies which contradicts to the theme. In Hollywood, all celebrities dressed like normal. They wear branded designer evening gowns while attending award ceremonies so the theme is not well-planned this year. We were all dressed as on-screen characters or more like celebrity icon.

We walked in as a group along the red carpet and amongst the midst of "reporters" (they are all our in-house designers who took the role as photographers that night too)...

After the red carpet there was this backdrop we normally see Hollywood celebrities took, they followed exactly the same except it wrote "Celebrity Idols".

Then there was three cartoon artist being hired to draw people from 6pm-7pm so I decided to get myself be drawn at too since this service is free. While I was waiting for the artist to finish his drawing of my self-potrait, there was the PA announcment os this group entering the red carpet - The Mercy of Gods.






That was the whole Events/Exhibitions dept being dressed as all the different characters like Lady Fan, He Xian Gu, Pig in Journey to the West, God of Fortune but no one came in Sun Wu Kong. They caught everyone's attention there...Indeed they deserve to win the best table

As we proceed into the ballroom, the emcee for the day started the programme and dances came out dancing. Then our Executive Director, Ms. Jean Chia came out and surprised everyone in her disguise as Marilyn Monroe and we almost couldn't recognise her. She even specially rehearsed the dance steps with the professional dancers there.


The dinner only started at around 8.30pm. The first dish came in as a cold dish.





This is a real flower plucked outside the ballroom. We were playing one of the games that we need to fulfil all the tasks so one of my colleagues ran outside to pluck a flower.

Look at the chicken and cockroach staring at the abalone and brocolli, yeap, we had abalone but it's only 1 small piece each.


The first and second round of lucky draw was announced but my name was not in it. We were all thinking the lower prizes it goes, the better the prizes it'd be. But when the 3rd round of lucky draw was announced. I got the 51st prize and it was a Zutto Rice Cooker worth $360. My colleague won the 34th prize and she got a vacuum cleaner. I had wanted the Nokia 7390 or shopping vouchers. A lot of my colleagues got shopping vouchers like from Taka, Robinson's, Metro, Isetan at least $100 or more worth. So disappointing!

Shu Nee from Production and me...I feel so bad cause I took so long to remember wgo she was with this dressing. She looked so different from the usual. I really cannot remember her. I was thinking who she was till this morning when I saw her pic with Sharon too then it reflected to me that how could I forgot about her. We lunch a few times together ina group too cause she wasn't around in office today.


The top prize was a Sharp Plasma TV and my boss won the 3rd prize which was a Samsung 32" LCD TV. Yong Hwee suggested getting Barbara (our boss) to treat us to KTV afterwards. We were all so excited. Even Mel (who's a Malay hears and can sing Mandarin pop like Jay Chou's songs). Barbara agreed so we all went to Marina Square KBox after that. We got a VIP room which was just nice fitted for 14 people. My first time in a VIP room, they had a mini stage at the corner of the room.

As Barbara is the boss and she's paying, we chose to let her sing the first song so as to start the ball rolling...



She started off singing an English song but she did not manage to finish the whole song...



Ricky and Eric singing 男人不该让女人流泪 saying this song is for all the ladies out there telling them 男人不该让女人流泪 so they each faced Sharon and me and pretend they are singing to us...Anyway that night, Eric sang a lot of William So's songs all because I said that he looked like William So doesn't mean he has to keep singing his songs...

Brokeback Mountain? Paul was fooling around with the already very high Yong Hwee from jugs of Tiger Beer...Paul was trying to act as if he was the kind of girl in KTV lounge sitting and flirting with guys...


We still didn't want to leave when the staff started chasing us out. It was already 4am and they were closing for the day. After that, the few of us left decided to settle down for coffee at Mr. Bean at Selegie. So the 8 of us including myself went to Mr. Bean. Yong Hwee was supposed to send me home but he was rather tipsy from the drinks so he has already decided to stay overnight at the hotel. We stayed for about 6am then my dad came to pick me up from there. My mum and dad have just returned from sending off my Aunty Berlyn back from the airport. My cousins and auntie were flying back to Melbourne that morning too (6.40am flight). A pity I couldn't make it to see them off. I was super tired on the way home but when I reached home, after showering and washing my face, I could not really sleep prob due to the tea I drank a while ago. I slept till 11.15am to have my brunch then slept at 2.15pm again and woke up at 4.30pm. Still suffering from Monday Blues and from the lack of sleep from that night today too.
